Longmont CranioSacral Therapy

Facilitating Healing Through Gentle Touch

“CST is a process of listening to the subtle messages coming from the bodies tissues which is often a very exciting adventure and this totally rocks my world!”

What To Expect

A CranioSacral Therapy session is performed while you remain fully clothed,  but it is helpful to the therapist if you wear loose and comfortable clothing as opposed to dress clothes or jeans.   You will typically begin the session lying flat on your back and (if you prefer) a bolster will be placed beneath your knees which reduces pressure on the low back.   There are conditions that may prevent you from lying flat on your back such as pregnancy or bone and muscle strain which may require positioning on your stomach or side.   The therapist will help you get as comfortable as possible before your session begins.  You will be lying on top of 2 sheets which allows the therapist to gently and easily slide a hand between them to the exact position required for a variety of hand positions without you having to move.   A blanket will be provided for your warmth and comfort as people usually find they feel cool as their systems become more relaxed.

The session starts with the therapist placing their hands directly on your body using a very light touch that is approximately 5 gms, about the weight of a nickel.  The therapist will start by first assessing the movement within CranioSacral System.  Starting at the feet and moving up the body to the head, the therapist feels for the subtle movement created in the body by the flow of cerebral spinal fluid through the CranioSacral System which is comprised of the brain and spinal cord.   If restrictions in the system are present, the flow can be effected.

Many clients become so relaxed that it is not uncommon to dose off intermittently throughout the session.  Please do not be embarassed if this happens because the body will benefit from the opportunity to experience the deep relaxation that it seeks.  This is more than a nap can provide because while you may feel like you are sleeping,  a lot of tension is being released from your body.

A session is usually performed to the sound of soft music, low lighting and without a lot of talking.  However, sometimes it may be necessary to engage in dialogue to further explore the tension pattern that you hold in your body.  If you prefer a particular type of music, or prefer silence please communicate this to the therapist.

It is also possible that your therapist will want to apply latex-free gloves to release restrictions in your mouth and even your teeth.  It is truly amazing to feel the tension leave from your body as your jaws, tongue and roof of your mouth have the opportunity to become less restricted.

Clients are usually surprised by how much better they feel after receiving mouth work and often return for more.

If you are a minor, (younger than 18) a parent must accompany you to sign a release for treatment.

I hope this gives you all the information you need to book a session.
